Three days and nothing for cops

Rajesh Talwar is back in judicial custody after spending three days in police remand. However, the police are yet to get any substantial leads in the sensational double murder case

The investigations into the murder of Arushi Talwar and Hemraj have hit a dead end with the police failing to get anything substantial out of the interrogation of prime accused Rajesh Talwar.

The Noida police failed to recover the weapon of offence, the missing mobile phones of the victims and her blood soaked clothes.

Having failed to get any substantial leads to solve the double murder case, the police are now blaming Rajesh for not cooperating with them.

Dr Talwar was sent to judicial custody till June 6 to Dasna jail on the expiry of his three-day police remand today.

The police also questioned priest Upendra Pancholi, who had performed Arushi's funeral rites but even
that failed to throw any light on the missing links in the case.

Apart from evidence, there are no witnesses in the case except e-mail records which would not even serve as corroborative evidence.

When asked for his reaction, Public prosecutor PN Singh refused to comment. “I would not like to disclose anything. The cops are still collecting evidence. I will comment only after the chargesheet is filed,” Singh told MiD DAY.

The cops also took the dentist dad of the murdered teen to Haridwar—where the last rites of Arushi were performed—in the hope of recovering the weapon used in the crime.

A senior police official said, “Dr Rajesh Talwar is a clever man. He was just wasting our time. He did not cooperate during interrogation. We have not recovered any weapon and physical proof during the course of police remand. So we will seek court's permission to conduct brain mapping and narco test on him.

This could reveal many facts.”

The court has fixed June 2 for hearing the police application for conducting a narco-analysis test on Talwar.

The Noida police have been on the back foot right from the day the probe into the case began. They had to face embarrassment when they readily claimed that Hemraj—Talwars' domestic help—killed Arushi but his body was found the very next day from the terrace of the Talwar residence.

Meanwhile, doctors from the Indian Dental Association (IDD) visited Talwars' residence yesterday. Dr Ashok Hobble, secretary general, IDD said, “We will write to the Central government demanding a CBI inquiry into the case. We fully support Dr Talwar, as he is a good practitioner. If he is found guilty then we will take action accordingly.”

Members of the National Commission For Women also met Nupur Talwar on Friday morning. NCD member Nirmala Venketesh said, “We consoled Dr Nupur Talwar for her personal loss. She has given some important information which cannot be revealed now. We condemn the character assassination of a 14-year-old girl.”
